Welcome to Drake Habitat for Humanity!
This site is meant for Drake students, staff, Des Moines community members, and Drake alumni to see what Drake's Habitat for Humanity chapter is up to. The site is still under construction so check back soon for more information. We would love to hear from you (kag005@drake.edu or drakeh4h@yahoo.com).
As a Habitat for Humanity campus chapter we recognize a need to bring together the University, surrounding community and the Des Moines Habitat for Humanity affiliate to work towards the common goal of helping to provide an adequate supply of low-income housing.
As the Drake University campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity our purposes will be to:
- Raise consciousness on campus about the need for low-income housing.
- Raise funds and resources for Habitat for Humanity projects in Des Moines and other communities to assist low-income families in building and eventually purchasing their own home, interest free and at no profit.
- Communicate the vision and goals of Habitat for Humanity so that all students, faculty, administrations, and staff have an awareness of the work.
- Recruit groups and individuals from within the Drake community to assist short and long term volunteers in organized work projects to develop low-income housing through construction and renovation.
- Work with the Des Moines Habitat for Humanity to qualify potential owners for the properties we will build or rehabilitate.
- Foster a continuing relationship with the families that are helped through Habitat for Humanity work projects.
- Develop local work camps and projects to encourage other campus chapters and affiliates to work in Des Moines.
